Coming soon, will be our special Online Theatre of Poetry!
As usual with us Elders in mind, we will have our generation poetry both classic and modern; we will have a series of five weeks, one ‘performance’ a week, followed by a two-week break. Each series will have a theme: the first theme will be ‘dreams’ – and it will be called Tread Softly. I’ll tell you why in a minute.
And each session of each five-week series, will consist of two readings, each of about 40 minutes long with a break of 15 minutes in between.
In the first session, I will read already published work – depending on copyright. If you have ideas of poetry you would like me to read, please email me!
And then a breather of 15 minutes.
The second session will be open to you, the audience – this may be poems written by yourself, or poems by someone else you particularly love. Again copyright is important. And you can read these yourself, or I can read them for you; it’s your choice!
I will be sending more information as soon as possible.
So, why will the first series be called Tread Softly. Read this poem W B Yeats:
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet;
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Starting this Online Theatre of Poetry has been one of my dreams for quite a while! So, please tread softly on this my dream!
This powerful poem by Yeats is called: Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven.
There will be a ‘ticket price’; though 25% of total sales will go to a different nominated charity with each 5-week series…and, of course, The Spirit Within is not-for-profit.
As I said, more information as soon as possible! Swithin
